You’ll learn to:

  • Engage in honest conversation about where your museum is in its diversity, equity, access, and inclusion journey
  • Set the direction for your museum’s equity path
  • Assess next steps in responding to changing demographics
  • Launch a conversation about making equitable change in your museum and the community
  • Assist your organization in becoming a more equitable and inclusive employer
Testimonials
CCLI has reached over 200 individuals in 50 museums of different types and sizes
So the experience of CCLI was really great because what we said we wanted to do as a team, as an internal team, was we wanted to create a structure that was sustainable… how do we really come together and build a community of staff members who care about it, can guide it, can inform it, so that we could really start to see it permeate through all elements of the organization.
Jennifer Farrington
CEO, Chicago Children’s Museum
And that’s one reason we called CCLI….It was a matter of we do need tools. We need some help to foster conversations. We need some ideas. And so that’s why we connected and that’s why it’s been great for us.
Charlie Walter
CEO, Mayborn Museum, Baylor University
Well, I think there were two reasons why we chose to go with CCLI on this journey toward equity. I think one is that equity is important to what we do, and we know that if that’s the baseline, we recognize that it’s important not just because it’s the right thing to do. It’s in alignment with our values and our soul. And why CCLI? We just think, A: it was a program built field-wide that understands the different kind of organization that a museum might be than other organizations in the community.

CEO, Scott Family Amazeum

Who created these tools?

Actionable Insights courses were developed by museums, for museums, with people, experiences, challenges, and solutions all part of the mix. This guided learning system is built on the concepts, ideas, and resources included in the original, year-long CCLI (Cultural Competence Learning Institute) program that launched in 2013. It is informed by the more than 200 individuals and 50+ museums of different types and sizes that participated in CCLI over the past 11 years. The course focus areas emerged from the CCLI National Landscape Study: The State of DEAI Practices in Museums (Garibay and Olson, 2020), which provided a snapshot of museum DEAI practices in 2019.

Now this coursework is available to many more museums online through Actionable Insights.

CCLI is a professional development model that helps museums catalyze equity and inclusion efforts within their institutions. It is a partnership between Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, Association of Children’s Museums, Association of Science and Technology Centers, and Garibay Group.

CCLI is supported by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
